  33. WHAT ARE THE IT UTILITIES
  34.  
  35. It Utilities are not free or public domain software. Non-
  36. registered user are permitted to use them for a 21 days trial 
  37. period. To continue using these utilities for more than 21 days 
  38. requires registration.
  39.  
  40. The It Utilities are extensions to the File manager of Window's 
  41. 3.1. They use the drag and drop facility of the File manager to 
  42. enhance it. Instead of buying a replacement File manager you can 
  43. add functions to it, you won't have to learn a whole new tool. 
  44. These utilities are enhanced with icon animation and sound.
  45.  
  46. The first utility is Trash It and implements a trash can to delete
  47. files. Trash It can keep files from your fixed disk when deleting
  48. so you can undelete them if need be. The trash can is emptied when
  49. Trash It is closed.
  50.  
  51. The second utility is View It, a file viewer that can show up to
  52. four text files at a time. View It does not load files in memory,
  53. it reads each page from the disk when needed. View It is thus 
  54. capable of showing text files of ANY size.
  55.  
  56. The third utility is Zip It, a shell for PKWare's PKZip and 
  57. PKUnzip. For this release you need a copy of PKZip and PKUnzip to
  58. use Zip It.
  59.  
  60. Finally Load It is an extension menu to the File manager to 
  61. automatically or manually load/unload the It Utilities when you
  62. start or close the File manager.
  63.  
  64. Apart from Load It, these utilities may also be used with other 
  65. File manager's that support drag and drop.
  66.  
  67. For more information on each utilities you should check out the 
  68. help provided. You can access the help of each utility from their
  69. respective system menu. The Load It help is accessed from the Load
  70. it menu command added to the File manager's main menu.

  72. HOW TO INSTALL
  73.  
  74. Simply run the Install program provided. You should restart the
  75. File Manager after installing to activate the It Utilities.
  76.  
  77. These utilities are minimized as icons and you must reduce the 
  78. size of the File manager to access them. The easiest way to do
  79. this is:
  80.  
  81. 1. Minimize all your running applications to icons except the 
  82.    File Manager.
  83. 2. Double click on the desktop or press CTRL-ESCAPE to bring up
  84.    the Task Manager.
  85. 3. Click on the Tile button.
  86.  
  87. You will then have the largest File Manager window possible with
  88. access to the It Utilities.

  90. You should follow the uninstalling steps before re-installing the
  91. It Utilities, after registering for example, or before installing
  92. a new version of the It Utilities. (see HOW TO UNINSTALL)
  93.  
  94. If you install over a previous copy of the same version of the It
  95. Utilities you should close the File manager and any It Utilities
  96. before running the install. You can start the install from the
  97. Program manager (File|Run). If you start the install from the File
  98. manager, you must close it immediately after the first screen of
  99. the install program appears. This will enable the install to 
  100. overwrite existing files, since Windows will not let an 
  101. application write over files that are in use. You will also get
  102. duplicate icons in the Program manager, you should delete the
  103. extra ones.

  105. HOW TO UNINSTALL
  106.  
  107. If you decide not to purchase the It Utilities after the 21 days
  108. trial period or you would like to delete the It Utilities for some
  109. reason, please follow the following steps.
  110.  
  111. 1. Edit the WINFILE.INI file located in your Windows directory and
  112.    remove the line from the [AddOns] section that refers to
  113.    LOADIT.DLL. It should look something like this:
  114.  
  115.    [AddOns]
  116.    Load it=C:\ITUTIL\loadit.dll
  117.  
  118. 2. Delete the files located in the directory in which you
  119.    installed the It Utilities. By default it is c:\itutil. Note
  120.    that you should close any It Utilities still running before
  121.    doing this. You MUST have done step one, closed and restarted
  122.    the File manager to erase the file LOADIT.DLL. If not, the File
  123.    manager will report it in use and refuse to delete it.
  124.  
  125. 3. Delete the file ITUTIL.INI located in your Windows directory.
  126.    You may wish to keep this file if you intend to install It
  127.    Utilities again so that your settings are preserved.
  128.  
  129. 4. Delete the file BWCC.DLL in your Windows system directory. But
  130.    ONLY if you are sure that no other software you have installed
  131.    uses it. This file is a sharable dynamic link library
  132.    containing the 3D look of the dialog boxes of the It Utilities.
  133.    It was developed by Borland and may be used also by some of
  134.    their products or products developed using their compilers. You
  135.    can easily tell by the look of the dialog boxes.

  137. BENEFITS OF REGISTERING
  138.  
  139. If you decide to register you will get these benefits:

  141. 1. Sound support for 16 bits audio cards.
  142.  
  143. 2. The "Unregistered" message under each utility will be replaced
  144.    by a file counter that tells you how many files are kept or
  145.    shown by each utility.

  147. 3. A manual.

  149. 4. Notifications of and special price for upgrades.
  150.  
  151. 5. Support for lower resolution than VGA. You can run this
  152.    shareware version on EGA or less but it will not look it's
  153.    best.

  155. 6. As a bonus you will also receive replacement sound files for 
  156.    the four standard sounds of Windows. They are similar but of
  157.    much better quality. They will also be in 8 and 16 bits
  158.    formats.

  273.               crash if the Show trashing or Show sending where
  274.               disabled.

  282. 1.2     01/93 Changed the way files are selected in list boxes.
  283.               Now you can use shift with a click of the mouse to 
  284.               select a range. Ctrl with a click of the mouse will
  285.               select/deselect an item. You can also select a range
  286.               by dragging the mouse with the left button down.

  288.               Fixed more problems with the keyboard handler of the
  289.               find dialog. Added hourglass cursor while searching.

  291. 1.1     12/92 Fixed problems with Find dialog in viewer. Now you 
  292.               can't call up more than one Find dialog. Choosing
  293.               Find from the menu simply gives the focus to the
  294.               existing Find dialog. Also the keyboard handler of
  295.               the Find dialog would get disabled when switching
  296.               to another window and comming back. This is also
  297.               fixed.

  299.               Fixed problem in the viewer when a file was not 
  300.               ended with a carriage return, the last line would 
  301.               not always be visible when using the key 'End' to get
  302.               to the end of file.

  304.               Fixed problem in the viewer when the next command was
  305.               used and the next file was minimized it would not open.
